What is an Electric Bike?
Besides everything you already know (or do not know) about EVs, there are one or two things electric bikes can teach you about success. By the time you are through with this short article, you will find out what those two things are on top of everything else you're about to learn about electric bikes.
But first of all, what is an electric bike?
An electric bike is exactly what the term sounds like; a motorized bike, which is a modern upgrade from the traditional gas- or limbs and sweat-powered bikes. There are various types of electric bikes, but their main defining factor is that they are bike versions equipped with battery-powered motors to assist propulsion.
Types of Electric Bikes
While there are various types of electric bikes designed to suit diverse riders with varying riding needs, all e-bike designs fall within two categories: a
Pedal Assist E-Bikes
This class of electric bikes is designed to provide motorized assistance until the bike reaches 20 mph (or 28 mph in specific pedal-assist models with a speedometer) and then stops.
Throttle Only E-Bikes
This class of e-bikes comes equipped with a throttle that provides propulsion but stops when the bike reaches 20 mph.
Should You Get an Electric Bike?
The more apt question is, do you ride? You do? Dear God, you have many reasons to switch to an e-bike. Why do you think cycling causes such health issues as LUTS, ED, genital numbness, infertility, priapism, etc.? It’s the pedaling, of course. Switching to e-bikes can greatly reduce the risk of such health issues even when the bike saddle is not so comfy.
Finally, there are two life lessons we can learn from electric bikes:
1. Two is better than one: Aye, synergy, like the electric motor assists mechanical pedaling in e-bikes, results in improved efficiency. You can take that to the bank at any time.
2. Faster acceleration leads to a shorter journey: EVs accelerate much faster than traditional vehicles. E-bikes can achieve a speed of up to 45 km/h, a significant milestone a cyclist is less likely to achieve with just pedaling. While speed comes with risk, so does success in life.
