One Dead As Hours-Long Texas Synagogue Standoff Ends… Governor says, Prayers Answered

    Texas State governor Gregory Wayne Abbott announced in a tweet early this morning that the hostage crisis in a Jewish synagogue has finally ended with all hostages free and unharmed. This is coming after an hours-long standoff between the police and a gunman who took four hostages, including a rabbi, in a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas on Saturday night. At about 5 pm Saturday 14 th January 2022, six hours into the hostage situation at Congregation Beth Israel, one of the four hostages- a male- was released, according to the Colleyville Police Department, leaving three more in the custody of the gunman. The governor said all hostages have been freed and the suspect dead.    The governor’s statement came shortly after an FBI Hostage Rescue Team stormed the building in Colleyville housing the Jewish synagogue in an effort to rescue the three remaining hostages.   A research study published in the journal JAMA Network Open this September saw a significant spike in cases of Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS) among marijuana users in Colorado between 2013 and 2018. The 5-year period is notably the time frame from when marijuana was legalized in the State. While the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes has been legal in Colorado since 2000, it wasn’t until 2012 that the drug was made legal for recreational use as well. The JNO study found that of the more than 800,000 reported cases of CHS between 2013 and 2018, the rate was highest in Colorado counties with no marijuana dispensaries until the drug was legalized in the State.
